Inclusive, all-party debate needed says Adams

27 January, 2011 - by Pat Sheehan, Westminster

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has said that the main party leaders’ debate in the forthcoming general election needs to be inclusive of all party leaders.

Speaking today Mr Adams said:

“What citizens need to see is an inclusive debate with all leaders of parties represented in Leinster House dealing with all the issues of concern to citizens.

“Sinn Féin has been in touch with the main broadcast organizations in the state on this issue and we have insisted on being included in the main leaders’ debate.

“Micheál Martin clearly wants to exclude Sinn Féin from the debate because he does not want to be challenged on Fianna Fáil Leadership’s abandonment of genuine republican values and their destruction of the economy.

“The Fianna Fáil leader would rather have a debate between himself and two other politicians who support his economic outlook.

“The politics of exclusion will not facilitate the open and informed debate that is in the interest of all citizens.” ENDS
