Reappointment of Willie O’Dea shows old Fianna Fáil loyalties are still paramount – Ó Snodaigh

1 February, 2011 - by Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Social Protection has criticised Fianna Fail leader Mícheál Martin for re-instating Willie O’Dea to his front bench.

Speaking today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:

“Willie O’Dea is a man who blatantly defamed a political opponent and then tried to avoid the legal consequences of his actions.

“How Mícheál Martin believes he is fit for his front bench is beyond me. His reappointment is a sign that the old Fianna Fáil loyalties are still paramount within the party.

“They claim that Willie O’Dea represents the interests of the working class is also very far fetched given that he has voted along with his Fianna Fáil colleagues for cuts to social welfare, public services and an EU/IMF deal that will ensure another four years of savage budgets that will target the working class indiscriminately.” ENDS
