Attwood should clarify which concessions he has received from British Government – Brady

2 February, 2011 - by Mickey Brady

Sinn Féin Social Security spokesperson Mickey Bradey MLA has called on Social Development Minister Alex Attwood to clarify his comment in the media this morning on what concessions he claims he has received from the British Government in relation to Benefits reform here.

Speaking from the Assembly Mickey said;

“Given the concerns Sinn Féin raised around the proposed Welfare Reform Bill alongside the amendments we submitted I am somewhat encouraged to hear the Minister claim he has been engaging with British Ministers on the issue of Social Security.

What he must do now is outline what conversations have taken place and what concessions, if in fact he has gotten any, have been made on this issue of massive concern for countless citizens.

I will be writing to the Minister seeking clarity and hopefully, given the proposed plans within the Welfare Reform Bill which would punish those on benefits, the Minister has made some advancement.” CRÍOCH
