Fine Gael attempting to con electorate – Ó Caoláin

2 February, 2011 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD

Sinn Féin Dáil leader Caoimhghin Ó Caolain has accused Fine Gael of attempting to con the electorate by claiming that they will not increase taxation but failing to spell out how they will pay back the enormous debt they are intent on taking on from the EU/IMF bailout.

Deputy Ó Caoláin said:

“The proposals produced by Fine Gael are lacking in credibility as they singularly fail to deal with the debt crisis in this country. How do they propose to pay back the existing banking debt in addition to the €67.5 billion loan from the EU and the IMF. The reality is you cannot solve a debt crisis by taking on even more debt”

“Furthermore Fine Gael's health proposals would effectively put insurance companies in control of our health services. What we need are fully public health services funded from fair and general taxation with equal access for all based on need alone.” ENDS
