Agri-students will welcome Michelle Gildernew’s move on Fees – Ramsey

3 February, 2011 - by Sue Ramsey

Sinn Féin MLA for west Belfast Sue Ramsey, who sits on the Assembly’s Employment and Learning Committee, has welcomed this evening’s announcement by Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew.

Speaking tonight Sue said;

“The move by Michelle means that fees for students attending Agricultural Colleges will not rise with the rate of inflation this year and that she has broken parity with the Department of Employment and Learning. Further to that she has stated that irrespective of whatever policy proposals are brought forward by the DEL Minister Danny Kennedy, if they include increases to student fees, she will not agree to their implementation in these colleges.

I have no doubt that those students attending Agricultural Colleges and their families, will welcome this initiative by the Minister.

Sinn Féin remains opposed to student fees and the onus remains firmly on Danny Kennedy to ensure that he does not allow his partners in the British Tory Party to punish our young people who are entitled to a first class education system.” CRÍOCH
