Daithí Doolan election campaign launch

15 April, 2004

Sinn Féin representative for Dublin South East, Daithí Doolan will officially launch his election campaign for Dublin City Council South East Inner City tonight 7:00pm at the Holiday Inn, Pearse St.

Speaking in advance of the launch Mr. Doolan said:

"Sinn Féin has brought a different type of politics to Dublin City, both inside the City Council and in communities across the City. We want to continue that work by increasing our representation on the Council and bringing an end to the cosy cartel that has run City Hall over the last number of years. There have been huge advances in Dublin in terms of regeneration and investment but there are also huge problems in housing, transport, waste management, drug abuse and the overall quality of life. We need to have a strong voice speaking out for Dubliners and for real change.

"Sinn Féin has a real agenda for change. Our priorities for the local election are:

  • housing as a right
  • no incineration
  • a proper waste management plan
  • addressing the causes and consequences of the drug crisis
  • sustainable community development.

"The response that we have been receiving on the doorsteps has been extremely positive. For too long the people in this community have been ignored and marginalised. Sinn Féin will put the concerns and needs of the people front and centre."

Mr. Doolan will be joined by Sinn Féin EU candidate for Dublin Mary Lou McDonald. ENDS
