McLaughlin welcomes siezure of Illegal Fuel

15 February, 2011

Sinn Féin MLA for South Antrim has welcomed the siezure of illegal fuel and the removal of tonnes of toxic waste in Crumlin this morning.

Speaking today Mr McLaughlin

“The closure and removal of this illegal fuel laundering plant is to be welcomed. The discovery of 18 tonnes of toxic sludge, a by product of this process, is certainly shocking and to have this removed will be a great relief to the local community given the environmental damage that this could have caused to local land and waterways .

“I would urge people not to use fuel depots such as these despite understandable concerns about the price at the pumps of legitimate service stations.

“While those behind it may see a quick profit, they nevertheless show little concern for the local community by storing large quantities of fuel without proper safety mechanisms, producing toxic by products to be dumped illegally and selling on fuel that will inevitably damage the motor vehicles.”
