Growth in Sinn Féin support reflects party’s support of working families and local communities – McDonald
Speaking at a media event in Dublin this morning Sinn Féin TD for Dublin Central Mary Lou McDonald said Sinn Féin will provide strong opposition and real backbone in the Dáil.
She said the growth in support for Sinn Féin in the capital reflects the hard work of party activists on the ground and the stance the party took in support of working families and local communities.
Deputy McDonald said:
“Sinn Féin stood on and received support for our economic policies which include our proposal not to put anymore money into toxic banks and to stimulate the economy to create jobs.
“It is clear that our message has been heard loud and clear and that it has been supported by a significant section of the electorate.
“In Dublin our growth in support reflects that hard work of party activists on the ground since 2007 and the stance the party took in support of working families and local communities.
“We were the only outgoing Dáil party to say clearly that we would get rid of the universal social charge, reverse the minimum wage cut and the cuts in social welfare and we will be putting pressure on whatever Government is formed in the coming days to do just that.
“Sinn Féin will play a very important role in the 31st Dáil in providing strong opposition to the incoming Government’s plans to cut public services and social supports.
“Fianna Fáil is generally in support of the policies of Fine Gael and so it will be over to Sinn Féin to provide real backbone in opposition in this Dáil.” ENDS
