SDLP challenged over NIW inquiry
Sinn Féin Assembly member Willie Clarke has challenged the SDLP to sort out their position with regard to the ongoing inquiry into NIW.
Mr Clarke said:
“Just what is the position of the SDLP with regard to NI water? For weeks after Christmas the SDLP were demanding an inquiry into NIW. Their Minister at the Executive supported the Inquiry which was established by OFM/dFM.
“Yet this morning on the media the SDLP spokesperson on everything Conal McDevitt is demanding that the current inquiry which is about to report is wound up and left until after the Assembly election.
“The basis for this is are reports that one of those involved had at one time been rejected for a position in NIW and the other unknown to herself had been placed on a list by civil servants as a possible non-executive director. If anything it could be argued that these facts would make the individuals involved more likely to be of a mind to criticise the Minister.
“Maybe while Mr McDevitt is working out exactly why these people are no longer impartial he could return to answering a number of questions I have repeatedly posed to his party regarding their relationship with NIW and in particular the continuing SDLP defence of those who presided over the misappropriation of contracts by the company to the tune of £28m and any links between these beneficiaries or indeed sacked NIW Directors and the SDLP.” ENDS
