Sinn Féin supports Moy Library - Gildernew

7 March, 2011

Speaking in support of the Moy Library, Fermanagh South Tyrone MP Michelle Gildernew has welcomed Friday's announcement in the Assembly Budget statement that more money is being made available to Libraries across the north and has called on Libraries NI to bin the idea to close 10 rural libraries including the one in the Moy.

The local MP has raised the issue of the Moy Library with DCAL Minister Nelson McCausland, and she will also be attending the public meeting in support of the library on Thursday night in the Ryandale at 7.15pm and is encouraging everyone to attend.
Ms Gildernew said,

"I raised the issue of the Moy Library with the DCAL Minister Nelson McCausland on Friday. Sinn Féin wholeheartedly supports the retention of the Moy Library. It is a vital asset to the local community, assisting educational development to local people and ensuring that school students can avail of many services including IT in their own area. I am extremely heartened by the campaign by the 'Save our Library' Committee, and the great response it is receiving from across the community, involving young and old alike. I would encourage everyone to come along on Thursday night to show their support."

"The Budget statement by the Assembly Finance Minister Sammy Wilson on Friday that more money is being made available for Libraries is a welcome one, and I would therefore call for Libraries NI to bin their idea to close the 10 rural libraries they have ear marked for closure. The Moy Library must be allowed to continue to provide its excellent educational service to the local community."
