Taoiseach’s refusal to drop by-election appeal case a waste of time and money – Doherty
Sinn Féin TD Pearse Doherty has described Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s refusal to withdraw the State’s appeal against his High Court victory in the Donegal by-election case as a waste of time and money and an affront to democracy.
Deputy Doherty challenged the Taoiseach in the Dáil today to drop the appeal.
Speaking after the Taoiseach refused his request Deputy Doherty said:
“Given that two Fine Gael members took similar actions in other constituencies on the back of the success of my case I would have assumed that a Fine Gael led Government would have dropped the appeal against my case.
“Enda Kenny’s refusal to drop this case is a waste of time and money and an affront to democracy.
“This is an appeal to a case about a by-election that has already taken place to a Dáil that no longer exists. It is incredible that Enda Kenny would continue to pour public money into this case.” ENDS
