Maskey: “Policing Plans important but community support is vital”
Sinn Féin Policing spokesperson Alex Maskey MLA commenting after the publication of the PSNI’s three year policing plan has said that regardless of what plans are put in place, they must be firmly based in garnering community support.
Speaking this afternoon Mr Maskey, who sits on the Policing Board, said;
“I welcome the publication of today’s report.
However, in discussions with the Chief Constable over recent times, Sinn Féin has made it clear that any police service worth its salt, purporting to represent the community, must ensure that it has the necessary support of the people. We have seen in recent times, not least around the issue of balanced representation and for people like the McGurk’s Families, that the PSNI still has some way to travel.
For our part we will continue to ensure that we work to ensure our people have a Policing Service which is embedded in the community with the support of all of our people.” CRÍOCH
