Adams urges rejection of those responsible for murder of Ronan Kerr

3 April, 2011 - by Gerry Adams

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has again strongly condemned the murder yesterday of PSNI Constable Ronan Kerr.

At a press conference in Belfast this morning Mr. Adams said:

“I want to express in the strongest possible terms Sinn Féin’s condemnation of the murder of Constable Ronan Kerr.

"Martin McGuinness speaks for all of us when he says this is an attack on the community, an attack on the peace process and it has left a family grieving for the loss of a loved one. It is a futile attempt to destroy the progress that has been made and which has the overwhelming support of the people of this island.

"This action and those responsible for it must be totally rejected. I am calling upon those involved to stop and to stop now.

"The political response must go beyond condemnation. It is imperative that everyone make clear their opposition to the murder of Constable Kerr. Every citizen must defend the process.

"Sinn Féin has been in touch with the Government in Dublin and I have asked that time be set aside at the beginning of business in the Dáil on Tuesday for TDs to have the opportunity to express their revulsion at Saturday’s attack.

"This action does not define republicanism and those involved do not represent republicanism.” ENDS
