Labour beginning to unwind election manifesto – McDonald
Responding to Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore’s interview on RTÉ Radio One today Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald said it is clear that the Labour Party has already begun to unwind its election manifesto while in Government having taken instructions from Europe not to introduce burden sharing with senior bondholders.
Deputy McDonald said:
“Labour went into the election with the battle cry of Labour’s way or Frankfurt’s way. Having increased its mandate and entering Government it is now clear that the Labour Party has already begun to unwind its election manifesto.
“The announcement of €24 billion more for defunct banks and burden sharing being taken off the table at the behest of Europe show’s clearly that it is in fact Frankfurt’s way despite the election promises of Eamon Gilmore and the Labour Party.
“No amount of spin or bluster from Eamon Gilmore can change the fact that hard working Irish tax-payers will continue to pay the debts of private profiteers while children go to school hungry and families struggle to heat their homes across Ireland.” ENDS
