Gilmore’s diplomatic drive described as closing the stable door after the horse has bolted

3 April, 2011 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Responding to Eamon Gilmore’s announcement of a diplomatic drive Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald has said it would be more appropriate if the issue of burden sharing was not already taken off the table.

Speaking today Deputy McDonald said:

“Eamon Gilmore’s diplomatic crusade would be more appropriate if the issue of burden sharing was not already taken off the table. It is a bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

“We all know that there will be a cut in the interest rate for the EU/IMF bailout. This is about Eamon Gilmore trying to claim credit for it while deflecting attention away from the key issue of burden sharing which the Government has already given up on.” ENDS
