Government needs to get priorities right and start bailing out the people – Tóibín
Speaking in the Dáil today Sinn Féin Enterprise Spokesperson Peadar Tóibín has called on the Government to start putting the people’s needs before that of the banks.
Speaking during Dáil statements on the reorganisation of the banking sector Deputy Tóibín said:
“Fine Gael and Labour have failed to deliver on their electoral mandate. They are now following in the footsteps of Fianna Fáil and the Greens in tying the people of this state to more debt in the name of defunct banks.
“The Government needs to get its priorities right. The prime stakeholder that should be given priority consideration in this whole sorry mess is the taxpayer, but they have received none. The stakeholder most in need of a stress test but has yet to receive one is the public. What the banks need should be secondary to what the people need. What Angela Merkel or Nikolas Sarkozy need should be secondary to the people’s need.
“The Government needs to sort out its priorities and start bailing out the people.”
