Short Strand community will oppose high rise Phone Mast

7 April, 2011

Sinn Féin representative for Pottinger Niall Ó Donnghaile has slammed those responsible for submitting a planning application for a 65 metre high phone mast to be located at Mountpottinger Link in the Short Strand area.
Speaking today Mr Ó Donnghaile said;
“I want to make it very clear from the beginning, Sinn Féin are totally opposed to locating phone masts, such as the proposed one, in residential areas like the Short Strand.
I have spoken with residents and community representatives already this morning who are deeply concerned that the application for a 65 metre high phone mast with six separate antennas on it could be allowed to go ahead.
I have spoken with Sinn Féin members of the Town Planning Committee and instructed them to object to this application in the strongest possible terms.
Our community has just succeeded in removing one dangerous eyesore from the Mountpottinger Road; we are not prepared to allow another one to be thrown up against our wishes.
I have no doubt the community in the Short Strand will continue to object to this phone mast and ensure that their voices are heard. Both myself and Sinn Féin Cumann members in the area will continue to campaign alongside community groups until this planning application is thrown in the bin where it belongs.” CRÍOCH
