Anderson: “The only crime here is McGimpsey’s attack on cancer patients”

7 April, 2011 - by Maeve McLaughlin

Responding to comments made the by the UUP Health Minister Michael McGimpsey claiming that comments by Martin McGuinness condemning his decision to prevent the new cancer unit at Altnagelvin going ahead were ‘tantamount to incitement to sectarian hatred’, Sinn Féin Assembly member for Foyle Martina Anderson said:
“The only thing criminal in all of this is Michael McGimpsey’s decision to attack cancer patients in the North West. Sinn Féin makes no apology for standing up for the rights of patients in Derry, Donegal and elsewhere directly affected by the bungling Health Minister’s tenure in his department.
“Given that the fact that his own party colleagues will not even stand over Mr McGimpsey’s incompetence and mismanagement we can presume that this semi detached Minister will not be around the Executive table post election to continue his attack on cancer patients and other vulnerable citizens.” ENDS
