Kathryn Reilly elected to the Seanad – a hat-trick for Sinn Féin!
The election of Kathryn Reilly has brought to 3 the number of Sinn Féin Senator elected to the new Seanad.
At 22, Senator Reilly is now the youngest member of the Houses of the Oireachtas.
Speaking from Leinster House Senator Reilly said:
“I am overwhelmed at the support I have received from across the state and I want to thank everyone who voted for me.
“We now have 3 Sinn Féin Senators and I want to commend and congratulate my colleagues Senators David Cullinane and Trevor Ó Clochartaigh.
“It is my privilege and honour to play a part in what I think will be a force to be reckoned with in the enlarged Sinn Féin Oireachtas team.
“At 22 I am now the youngest member of the Houses of the Oireachtas. Many thousands of people my age are out of work and suffering the effects of government austerity measures. It is now my job to be an advocate for them and for all the hundreds of thousands of people who are shouldering the burden of government mismanagement of the economy.
“I will use my position to put forward an alternative which is credible, which will work and which is fair.
“I believe that more young people should get involved in politics. We are the future and it is time to make our mark.”
