Sinn Féin will not take lectures from a party that has sullied the name of Irish politics – McDonald

11 May, 2011 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Speaking after an outrageous attack on her party in the Dáil this evening from Fianna Fáil’s Barry Cowen, Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald said she will not take lectures from a party that has sullied the name of Irish politics and led the state to economic ruin.

Ms McDonald said:

“Barry Cowen has a brass neck to attack Sinn Féin on the issue of political donations given his party’s record.

“The funding of Sinn Féin is all completely above board and available for scrutiny as we are the only party publishes its annual accounts.

“Our elected representatives only take the average industrial wage as a gesture to show that we are not in politics for personal gain but for a genuine political cause.

“The irony of Fianna Fáil bringing forward legislation on political donations will not be lost on many. Time and time again representatives of that party have lined their own pockets at the expense of the taxpayer and many have been caught up in tribunals that have cost the state millions.

“Sinn Féin will not take lectures from a party that has sullied the name of Irish politics and led the state to economic ruin.” ENDS
