Ferris secures debate on school transport
Sinn Féin TD Martin Ferris today succeeded in having the Dáil schedule an adjournment debate on school transport in rural areas. The Deputy for Kerry North/Limerick East mentioned a number of local cases where the removal of school transport because of the changed criteria for qualification has resulted in disruption to the lives of the children and families involved.
Deputy Ferris said, “Changes which were made to the distance criteria have resulted in a significant number of children being no longer able to avail of the transport scheme. This has imposed quite a significant burden on the children and their families.
“The savings involved cannot be justified by what I believe is a short sighted and petty measure. I would call on the current Minister Ruairi Quinn, whose party made similar criticisms when in opposition, to introduce a fairer and more inclusive system.” ENDS
