Short Strand shootings will not restore calm - Maskey

22 June, 2011 - by Alex Maskey

Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has said that people with those who would bring guns onto the streets of Belfast have no support and the use of weapons by the elements responsible for shootings will not make the community safer.

Mr Maskey stated,

“The who were responsible for the firing of shots need to realise that they have nothing to offer and will not in anyway aid the search for a solution to the problems being faced by this community.

“We said clearly that anyone bringing out weapons will not make this community safer and that it shouldn’t happen.

“The notion that these elements are protecting this area is a nonsense following the shooting of a photographer.

“Lets be clear about this. The community does not want anyone carrying out these actions in their name, they do not support these type of attacks and they want whoever is responsible to stop immediately.

“The absolute priority for the people of this area is that there is calm restored and they can get on with their lives peacefully.”
