Plans to change drivers license to plastic card format make sense – Ellis

6 July, 2011 - by Dessie Ellis TD

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Transport Dessie Ellis TD has welcomed the announcement that all drivers’ licenses will be produced in a plastic credit card style format, describing it as a positive and sensible development.

The decision was made by the Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht of which Deputy Ellis is a member.

Deputy Ellis said:

“This is a very sensible step which will make life easier for drivers as a smaller, more hard wearing license is much more practical.

“This new design will make it far easier to carry around and have with you at all times. It will also mean that the license could be used for other identification purposes such as ID for flights.”
