Sinn Féin delegation meet with Maghaberry prisoners
A Sinn Féin delegation including the vice chair of the Justice Committee, Raymond McCartney, Justice committee member, Sean Lynch along with Paul Maskey MP MLA, Jennifer McCann MLA and Cllr Johnny McGibbon have met with the prisoners currently being held in Roe House, Maghaberry.
Speaking following the meting Mr McCartney said:
“Yesterday our delegation met with all the prisoners currently being held in Roe House in Maghaberry.
"There are ongoing concerns that the prisoners are having to protest due to conditions within the prison.
“There is a very clear need to implement the agreement that was reached between the Prisoners, the POA and the Justice Minister last august. This implementation of this agreement is still outstanding yet provides the basis for improved conditions and treatment of prisoners.
“Beyond this there is also the issue of Marian Price and Martin Corry. Both are being held following the revoking of their license by the British secretary of state. We stated at the time this was wrong and we are reiterating our call for their release.
“We also talked to Brendan Lillis from West Belfast who has had his life sentence revoked and is currently very seriously ill in the prison hospital. I would appeal for the immediate release of Mr Lillis on humanitarian grounds."
