Health Minister’s plans for Roscommon don’t add up - Ó Caoláin

7 July, 2011 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD

Sinn Fein Health spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has described Health Minister James Reilly as ‘totally at sea’ after his comments on RTÉ’s Prime Time and demanded that the Minister not proceed with the closure of Roscommon Hospital Emergency Department.

Deputy Ó Caoláin said:

“Health Minister James Reilly on Prime Time was totally at sea trying to explain and justify the arrangements to replace the Roscommon Hospital Emergency Department from next Monday.

“He had to admit that he has not secured GPs to staff the proposed unit nor are GPs trained to do so.

“The Minister's plans simply don't add up. Patient safety requires that the Minister does not proceed with this ill-conceived plan and that he should provide the leadership and the resources to keep the Emergency Department open.” ENDS
