Senator condemns "dishonesty" of Taoiseach on health cuts

16 July, 2011

She said:
"The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has tried to blame hospital managers for further impending cuts to health services, following the announced budget 'overspend' by hospitals. This is totally dishonest of the Taoiseach. He knows that in Budget 2011 health spending was reduced by over 700 million euros, resulting in widespread cutbacks and hardship for patients. This government this year is handing over a similar amount to unguaranteed Anglo-Irish Bank bondholders.
"Sinn Fein will continue to campaign against health cuts and for a far and equitable health service for all."
Emphasising Sinn Fein's continued commitment to Irish unity, Senator Reilly said:
"We urge people to become involved in Sinn Fein's campaign for Irish unity. We need to have a truly national debate about how we can transform our country on the basis of reconciliation, an end to partition and the creation of a new Republic which cherishes all the children of the nation equally."
