Sinn Féin delegation meet with Maghaberry prisoners
A Sinn Féin delegation consisting of the Vice-Chair of the Justice Committee, Raymond McCartney MLA and committee members, Sean Lynch MLA and Jennifer McCann MLA met yesterday with prisoners in Maghaberry.
Speaking following the meeting Mr McCartney said:
“Yesterday our delegation met with prisoners being held in Roe House in Maghaberry. While there are ongoing concerns that the prisoners are protesting about we welcome the resolution of the concerns around family and legal visits which have now resumed without undue restrictions.
“Beyond this there is the issue of Marian Price and Martin Corry. Both are being held following the revoking of their license by the British secretary of state. We stated at the time this was wrong and is tantamount to internment without trial. We are reiterating our call for their release.
“It is essential that prisoners rights are protected and that human rights are to the fore of the prison regime. We also firmly believe that the full implementation of the agreement reached last August is essential and if applied would resolve all outstanding issues.
