Sinn Féin’s Paul Donnelly welcomes start of by-election campaign

4 October, 2011

The Sinn Féin candidate in Dublin West, Paul Donnelly has welcomed today’s movement of the writ which will allow the by-election to take place.

Paul, who lives in Clonsilla, kicked off his campaign last night and is looking forward to debating the issues affecting people on the ground in Dublin West over the coming weeks.

Donnelly said:

“Today marks the official start of the by-election campaign in Dublin West.

“My canvass team and I have already been out knocking on doors the length and breadth of the constituency with jobs and cuts the main issues affecting people.

“This bye-election is a unique opportunity for the people of Dublin West to give their verdict on the performance of the Fine Gael/Labour coalition government. It is hard to believe that this time last year; both of these parties were castigating Fianna Fáil policy from the opposition benches, and now, twelve months on, they are implementing these failed policies.

“Only a few short months ago, both parties were making promises not to close hospital wards, not to cut Garda numbers and to create jobs. All of these promises have come to nothing.

“I’m looking forward to delivering the republican alternative to the people on the door-steps over these next few weeks.”
