Libraries NI seeks new board chairperson
The Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure is currently seeking a dynamic individual for the position of Chairperson of Libraries NI.
Libraries NI is responsible for the unified public library service throughout the north of Ireland.
Commenting on the importance of the position, the Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín said: “This is a challenging time for libraries in the north of Ireland and I am hoping to appoint a chairperson with the right skills to help overcome these challenges and continue to deliver a high quality service for all.
“Libraries are at the heart of communities, providing information access to all. If we are to be successful in meeting the challenges ahead it is essential that the Chairperson of Libraries NI, together with his or her colleagues on the Board, will provide strong strategic direction and commitment to not only deliver on the changes ahead but continue to provide the service that is so valued by our local communities.”
Libraries NI has approximately 860 staff and an annual revenue budget of approximately £31.5million.
The Chairperson will be responsible for providing strategic leadership for an important statutory public service and ensuring the most effective use of resources in delivering an up-to-date and high quality library service.
In conclusion the Minister said: “I would encourage all with an interest in serving the public library service to put their names forward for this challenging but important position.”
