Sinn Féin Calls for Support of ESA Motion
Sinn Féin Education Spokesperson Daithí McKay has said that he will be supporting the motion calling for the implementation of the Education Skills Authority (ESA).
Mr McKay said,
“Sinn Féin has been in support of ESA as a replacement to the local Education and Library Boards in order to bring efficiencies into local education.
“The implementation of ESA would bring savings of up to £20 Million each year and at a time of extensive cuts to the Education budget we must look at ways of saving administration costs in order to protect frontline services.
“The education of our children is the most important factor in looking to advance the educational agenda and rationalising the regional Boards into one authority would make perfect sense.
“The savings would be made through better planning, better managing of the school estate and better cooperation across the present board areas.
“Sinn Féin will be backing this motion and we are calling on all the other parties to support it in order to improve our ability to deliver a first class education to all of our children.”
