Ombudsman Intervention on Data Charges Welcome
Sinn Féin MLA Phil Flanagan has welcomed the Communications Ombudsman declaration that mobile phone companies must do more to inform people of the cost for data tariffs.
Mr. Flanagan said,
“I welcome the fact that the Communications Ombudsman has made this intervention as the cost being occurred by people using smart phones or who live in border areas and incur roaming charges is obviously a matter of concern.
“Like the ombudsman, I know of people who have inadvertently ended up with large bills due to roaming charges or going over their limit even though they believed they had an unlimited data download limit.
“I call on Ofcom to now adopt a stricter approach in terms of advertising rates and limits to ensure that it is easy for people to understand exactly what tariff they are on.”
