Adams to meet Minister on Taskforce recommendations

12 May, 2004

West Belfast MP Gerry Adams will lead a party delegation to meet with the British Direct Rule Minister Barry Gardiner tomorrow morning. The meeting will discuss the implementation of the West Belfast Taskforce recommendations and in particular the implementation of the Targeted Initiatives, which makes possible the establishment of the Employment Services Board and the Job Assist Centres.

Speaking today Mr Adams said:

" I welcome the chance to meet directly with the Minister Barry Gardiner tomorrow. The implementation of the West Belfast Taskforce recommendations is crucial for the future of the area. A key element of this is the implementation of the Targeted Initiatives which will allow the Employment Services Board and the Job Assist Centres to be established.

" This is an important step forward in completing the work of the Taskforce and the overall regeneration of West Belfast. There are other recommendations which remain outstanding and the recent application to the Integrated Development Fund, if accepted, will be another step in regeneration and tackling inequality. I will be asking the Minister to support the application to the IDF.

" The Targeted Initiatives are a good start and we now need to move speedily on with the complete implementation of the Taskforce recommendations." ENDS
