Sinn Féin EU candidate Bairbre de Brún MLA speaking after visiting the Balmoral Show today has said with so much change for farming communities that it is vital that there is a strong voice that will listen, respond to and represent the many diverse interests that exists in farming and rural communities throughout Ireland.
Ms de Brún said:
"Sinn Fein are the only All Ireland party contesting winnable seats across the island of Ireland in this election. We are uniquely placed to listen, respond to and represent the many diverse interests that exist within farming and rural communities throughout Ireland. A strong voice in the heart of Europe is vital in order to secure the best possible future for farmers and everyone in the rural community.
"There is a great wealth of vitality and resourcefulness in our rural communities. The focus should be, and Sinn Féin's commitment, is on keeping farming families on the land and ensuring a good quality of life for everyone living in rural communities.
"The impact of the EU, particularly on agriculture cannot be underestimated. Our rural communities need strong representatives who will not only negotiate the best deal for Irish rural, farming and fishing communities but who are also committed to working in partnership with these communities who for to long have been marginalised and taken for granted."
