McCartney concern over attempt to recruit woman
Sinn Féin Assembly Justice Committee vice-Chair, Raymond McCartney MLA (Foyle) has raised concerns about attempts to pressurise a local woman into providing information.
Raymond McCartney said:
“Sinn Fein has met with the PSNI to voice our concerns and register our strong disapproval over an attempt to pressurise this woman into providing information.
“I and other members of the Party have spoken to the woman and we fully accept that she was approached in her own home and her personal circumstances exploited to force her into providing information.
“This form of intimidation has no place in the new beginning for policing - indeed it has all the hallmarks of the failed practices of the past.
“On the advice of Sinn Féin the person concerned has contacted her solicitor to register a complaint and this is a matter which will be investigated by the Police Ombudsman.
“In our meeting with the PSNI, the Party has outlined its views on this matter in the strongest terms possible.”
