Adams meets Dundalk Diageo workers
Sinn Féin TD for Louth Gerry Adams today met with a delegation of workers from the Diageo plant in Dundalk.
The Sinn Féin TD assured the workers of Sinn Féin’s full support and committed to “do all we can to help and assist in maintaining the plant in Dundalk and securing the rights and entitlements of all of the workers”.
Speaking after the meeting Deputy Adams said:
“The workers I met today were devastated by the news they received last Thursday that their jobs, and the jobs of up to 100 workers in Dundalk and 150 in Kilkenny are gone.
“The Great Northern brewery has been a key employer in the Dundalk area for generations and its closure would be a devastating blow to the economy of the town.
“The workers in the brewery have made a substantial contribution over many years to what is a very profitable company. They have been loyal to Diageo – it’s time Diageo demonstrated some loyalty to them.
“I intend to speak to Diageo management. I have already written to the Minister for Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation Richard Bruton asking him to arrange an urgent meeting with Diageo to press for a reversal of this decision.”
