Sinn Féin repeats call for prisoners release

30 January, 2012 - by Raymond McCartney

Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney has repeated his call for the release of Marian Price and Martin Corry who are being held in prison after the British Secretary of State revoked their licences.

The Sinn Féin Justice Committee vice-Chair said:

“Sinn Féin has consistently opposed the Life Sentence Review Commission since its inception in the late 1980s. We are totally against people being held in prison by revoking their licence.

“If there is evidence against someone then it should be produced and tested in a court of law. Justice not only needs to be done but it also needs to be seen to be done.

“Sinn Féin has and will continue to raise this matter at every opportunity with the British Government and the Department of Justice. We will also be making representations to the Life Sentence Review Commission when they come to examine both these cases in the coming weeks.” CRÍOCH/ENDS
