McElduff welcomes Omagh Hospital announcement

14 February, 2012 - by Barry McElduff

Sinn Féin's Barry McElduff MLA (West Tyrone) has welcomed the announcement today of £26 million funding for a new hospital in Omagh.

 Mr McElduff said:

“This is a project that Sinn Féin and I personally have lobbied hard for with the local people in recent years. This is a good news story for West Tyrone and in conjunction with the announcement that work on two sections of the A5 is to proceed will provide a welcome boost to the construction industry. Despite both these projects coming under budgetary threat on a number of occasions and while other Parties gave up, Sinn Féin and our Executive members, particularly deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness stayed focussed and determined that they would be delivered.

“This investment in our Health infrastructure is welcome and is the culmination of a lot of hard work by many individuals and groups who have lobbied for this hospital in Omagh and all of them deserve this success.

“Today’s announcement represents a major advancement in Health delivery in Omagh and district. But it is not just about bricks and mortar but also about the services that the facility delivers and therefore it is important that the peole have their say in the service provision.

“I can assure the people of West Tyrone that Sinn Féin will maintain the pressure on the Irish government to fulfil its responsibility to the completion of the A5  by providing the level of funding to which it committed to link the Northwest with the rest of Ireland.”
