West Belfast Sinn Féin MLA welcomes GAA acceptance of Casement Park rebuild offer
West Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has welcomed the announcement by the GAA that they have accepted the Department of Culture, Arts & Leisure offer of £61.4 million for the redevelopment of Casement Park.
The Sinn Féin spokesperson on sport said he was delighted with the GAA decision to build a new stadium in West Belfast.
Pat Sheehan said:
"The construction of a 40,000 capacity state of the art stadium on the Casement Park site will be a huge boost for the GAA in the city and County Antrim and will bring longer term and wider economic benefits to an area in much need of investment.
"West Belfast has suffered from many years of neglect including under investment. Hopefully the construction contractural arrangements for this development will include measures to address long term unemployment in this part of the city.
"The GAA are to be congratulated on taking this decision and I am sure the new Casement Park will be an excellent stadium where we can display and enjoy all that is best in our native games for decades
