Community pharmacy has a vital role to play in the health service - Ramsey

14 March, 2012 - by Sue Ramsey

Speaking about the Health Minister’s statement in the Assembly on the way forward for community pharmacy, Sinn Fein MLA Sue Ramsey, who is also the Chairperson of the Assembly’s Health Committee said:

“I agree with Minister Poots that community pharmacy has a vital role to play in the health service as it is a crucial part of a patient centred and locally based care system.

“However, I am disappointed that there has been no agreement between the Department, HSCB and CFNI and I am concerned that negotiations have broken down. My Committee has received information from the pharmacists which outlines the difficulties that they are faced with.

“The statement from the Minister appears to give less than was offered last week to CFNI and the £8m mentioned represents a real increase of only an extra £1.5m. I am also looking to find out from the Minister and Department exactly how these extra funds will be distributed. I know that my Committee will want to examine this in more detail.”
