Relief for local community as Andrews development refused - McCann
Sinn Féin MLA for West Belfast, Fra McCann, has welcomed the Environment Minister’s Alex Attwoods decision to refuse planning for the proposed development of the Andrews Mill at Divis Street in west Belfast.
Speaking today Mr McCann said:
“This development has been opposed by the local community for some time now. I, along with local residents clearly indicated that the plans for this development were completely out of character and step with the local community and we have campaigned jointly to ensure that this did not get approval.
“I have had several meetings and discussions with the Environment Minister, Alex Attwood and pressed him to make the right decision regarding this development.“I have also recently again met the owners of Andrews and have said to them that there was no place for the development in this residential area.
“To see that planning permission has not been granted is testimony to this community’s endeavors to shape their locale in the light that they would like to see it developed as ultimately they are the people who have to live with any planning decisions impact on their areas.”
