Sports Minister pays tribute to Jim Stynes

Sports Minister Carál Ní Chuilín has paid tribute to former Australian Rules footballer Jim Stynes who has died at his home in Melbourne.

Forty-five year old Jim Stynes was a former Dublin minor GAA player and the first Irish man to play Australian Rules Football.

Carál Ní Chuilín said: "I am saddened to hear of the death of Jim Stynes. He was an outstanding player who achieved the Brownlow medal, one of the highest accolades in the Australian National League.

"In his sporting career and through his charity work, Jim made a difference to many people. My deepest condolences are extended to his wife and children at this sad time."
