Sinn Féin call for Marian Price move

26 March, 2012 - by Jennifer McCann

Today in the Assembly, Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann said that in the event of British Secretary of State Owen Patterson continuing to refuse to release Marian Price, Justice Minister David Ford should immediately move her to an outside hospital.

The West Belfast MLA’s call came today after she had asked the Justice Minister in the Assembly will he move Marian Price to an outside hospital considering her present medical condition.

Jennifer McCann said:

“The bottom line is that Marian Price’s present medical condition cannot be adequately treated in gaol and she should be moved to an outside hospital.

“We have repeatedly called for Marian Price’s release considering that she has received bail on the original charges she faced but is being held after the British Secretary of State revoked her license. Sinn Féin are opposed to the revoking of licences and if there is evidence against someone it should be brought before a court of law.

“We recently visited the Hydebank Prison and although Marian Price refused to meet Sean Lynch and myself, we were able to inspect the conditions she is being held under and talk to prison staff. The Justice Minister has the authority to move Marian Price to an outside hospital and should do it immediately.”
