Serious errors on Navan Town Electoral Register must be investigated

25 May, 2004

Sinn Féin Meath Councillor Joe Reilly has described the incorrect inclusion of almost 1,000 voters on the Navan Town Council electoral register as an absolute fiasco. He called for an immediate independent investigation into how this situation arose and said that the voters effected need to be informed immediately that they will not have a vote in Navan Town Council election on June 11th.

Councillor Reilly said:

"The incorrect inclusion of almost 1,000 voters on the Navan Town Council electoral register is an absolute fiasco. It is incredible that such a serious error could occur in this day and age and many questions need to be answered.

"At a meeting with the County Manager this morning, Sinn Féin called for an immediate independent investigation into how this situation arose and for the voters effected by this error to be notified immediately

"Sinn Féin will not be detracted by this mess. We are campaigning hard to see three Councillors elected to represent the people of Navan and this work continues."ENDS
