Ellis condemns appointment of Pyrite company to Building Regulations Advisory Board
The Sinn Féin spokesperson on housing Dessie Ellis TD has condemned the appointment of Conor Taafe of Homebond Insurance to the Building Regulations Advisory Board.
Deputy Ellis described this move as “a scandal” given Homebond’s refusal to appear before an Oireachtas Committee investigating Pyrite contamination on two occasions in the last year.
Deputy Ellis said;
“This is nothing short of a scandal. Homebond Insurance, which denied liability for residents of Pyrite contaminated homes which it covered, has refused to attend an Oireachtas Committee meeting on two occasions in the last year. In doing this they have shown no respect for either the Oireachtas or the people they cover who they have left in Limbo.
“To appoint Conor Taafe of Homebond to a position where he will have influence over building regulations coming out of this debacle and others is an insult to these families, the committee and its members. It makes no sense.
“I call on the Minister to review this appointment immediately. I also call on Homebond to arrange to attend a meeting of the Oireachtas Committee investigating the Pyrite problem.”
