Ellis calls for Dáil to reconvene to scrap Household Charge
Sinn Féin TD Dessie Ellis has called on the government to reconvene the Dáil in order to pass a bill to scrap the Household Charge.
He made his comments following the failure of the government to achieve even one third registration by the deadline last weekend.
Deputy Ellis said:
“The people have rejected this unjust flat rate charge in huge numbers and said no to filling the gap made by government cuts as part of their bailout plan.
“If this government has any desire to show they respect the will of the people they must cut the insults and take steps to abolish the household charge.”
“Sinn Féin has published a Bill to repeal the Household Charge and I urge the government to reconvene the Dáil and allow for this legislation to be debated.”
