Marian Price should be moved to hospital immediately

1 May, 2012 - by Jennifer McCann

Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann has repeated the call for Marian Price to be moved from Hydebank Prison to an outside hospital facility.

The West Belfast MLA’s comment came ahead of a scheduled question today by Sinn Féin MLA Michelle Gildernew to the Justice Minister in the Assembly concerning Marian Price’s continued imprisonment.

Speaking today the Assembly’s Justice Committee member, Jennifer McCann, said:

“Today Marian Price was deemed too unwell to appear in court and it is clear this women needs to be cared for and receive treatment in a proper hospital.

“It is obvious she is a threat to no one and continuing to keep her in prison serves no purpose. However this situation will only be properly resolved when the British Secretary of State reinstates Marian Price's licence.  At the very least Marian Price should be moved to an outside hospital immediately where she can receive the medical attention she clearly needs.”
