Gá le plé ar an Straitéis do na Luathbhlianta – Ó Clochartaigh
Tá géarghá le plé ar an Straitéis do na Luathbhlianta, dar le Seanadóir Shinn Féin, Trevor Ó Clochartaigh. Ag eascairt as na ciorruithe atá curtha i bhfeidhm do thuismitheoirí aonair ag an Aire Coimirce Sóisialaí, Joan Burton, ceisteanna faoin soláthar seirbhísí cúram leanaí, scéalta sna meáin maidir le mí-úsáid páistí, ráitis ó Ombudsman na Leanaí agus eile tá sé ríthabhachtach go bpléifí an chaoi a bhfuil muid ag tabhairt aire dár bpáistí agus cén fhorbairt is gá a dhéanamh ar an earnáil chun freastal cui a dhéanamh orthu.
Fáiltíonn Seanadóir Ghaillimh Thiar roimh bunú an Grúpa Saineolach Luathbhlianta atá chun comhairle a chuir ar an Aire Frances Fitzgerald faoi na reimsí seo, ach tá sé nótáílte aige nach bhfuil aon ionadaíocht ó earnáil reamhscolaíocht na Gaeilge ná Gaeltachta ina measc. ‘Is mór an trua seo’, a deir Ó Clochartaigh, ‘tá cuid mhór saineolas ar na riachtanais faoi leith atá ann maidir le luathoideachas tré mheán na Gaeilge ag Forbairt Naíonraí Teo., Comhar Naíonraí na Gaeltachta, sna Coisti Cúram Leanaí agus grúpa eile nach iad, ach níl áit acu sin ar an bhfóram seo.’
‘Tá seo tábhachtach d’fhorbairt na bpáistí le Gaeilge, ach freisin tá sé ríthábhachtach i gcomhthéacs cur I bhfeidhm éifeachtach an Straitéis Fiche Bliain don Ghaeilge agus ba choir go mbeadh inchur ag na grúpaí seo san obair fhorbartha’, dar leis.
‘Freisin, tá cuid mhaith saineolas sa Seanad faoi na réimsí seo chomh maith agus sin an fáth a bhfuilim ag lorg díospóireacht faoin ábhar agus athas orm go bhfuil an Rialtas sásta seo a thionóil, chun fís an Rialtais seo maidir leis an Straitéis Luathbhlianta a scagadh agus moltaí dearfacha a dhéanamh ina leith’, a deir Trevor Ó Clochartaigh
Need to discuss strategy for early years expert group – Ó Clochartaigh
There is an urgent need for a discussion on the Early Years Strategy, according to Sinn Féin Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh.
“Arising out of to the cuts to Single Parents payments implemented by Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton, questions regarding the provision of childcare services, reports in the media regarding child abuse, and recent statements on the part of the Children’s Ombudsman among other issues, it is vitally important that we have a discussion on the way we are caring for our children and in what way the sector needs to be developed in order to service children properly.”
The Galway Senator welcomed the establishment of the Early Years expert group which is to advise Minister Frances Fitzgerald on the preparation of the strategy, however he also noted that there is no representation from the Irish medium or Gaelscoil pre-primary sector on the group.
“It is a pity that the sector is not represented, as they have a high degree of expertise on the particular requirements related to early education in Irish, in particular groups such as Forbairt Naíonraí Teo., Comhar Naíonraí na Gaeltachta, and Coisti Cúram Leanaí among other groups, but they are not represented on this group.”
“This is vitally important for the development of children with Irish, but it is also essential in terms of the implementation of the 20 years strategy, and these groups should have input in to the development of the strategy.”
“In addition, there is a lot of expertise in the Seanad about these issues, and it is for that reason that I am looking for a debate on the issues, and I welcome the fact that the Government is willing to facilitate this debate, in order that we can scrutinize the Early Years Strategy, and make positive Recommendations in that regard,” according to Senator Ó Clochartaigh.
