Enterprise Ireland investment in Pilot Training Company: Imperative on government to intervene – Adams

6 July, 2012 - by Gerry Adams TD

Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams has called on the government to “directly intervene and ensure that the stranded trainee pilots in Florida are able to conclude their pilot training courses.”

Teachta Adams’ remarks follow news that Enterprise Ireland has been a significant investor in the company for the last five years.

The Louth TD said:

“I have been in touch today with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation asking what action they are taking to support the 80 Irish trainee pilots stranded in Florida.

“The role of the Irish Aviation Authority, which is a semi state body, in failing to realise earlier that there were problems with the Pilot Training College Waterford (PTCW) is a matter of concern.

“And now we learn that Enterprise Ireland has a significant investment in the company.

“There is an onus on the government to take a pro-active role in helping the trainee pilots negotiate an extension to their visas, which are due to end on July 17th; their accommodation arrangements which they have to vacate on July 15th, and to conclude their pilot training courses.”
