MEP's Support for Narrow Water Bridge Welcome-Ruane

8 July, 2012 - by Caitríona Ruane

Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has welcomed the commitment of MEP’s who addressed a meeting to campaign for the Narrow Water Bridge.

Ms Ruane said,

“The attendance yesterday of MEP’s Martina Anderson and Jim Nicholson at the meeting of political representatives, Newry and Mourne and Louth County Councils as well as business and community leaders shows the support for this bridge right across the entire spectrum of political representation on this island.

“The application for funding for the bridge is now with the Special European Union Programmes Body so it is important that we have a strong lobby in Europe.

“While Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has only taken up her new position she made a commitment to come to South Down to support the project as one of her first major engagements.

“It is important that we build both a political and economic campaign to deliver this project and building on the European dimension on both sides of the border is crucial to that strategy.

“I would thank Martina Anderson and Jim Nicholson for coming along and seeing the potential of this project at first hand and highlighting their support for the project.”
