Ambulance death a direct result of government health policy – Ó Caoláin
Sinn Féin Health Spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has said the death of a young woman in an ambulance travelling to hospital is a direct result of government health cuts.
The young woman, who had been in a car crash, was sent to Galway University Hospital via Portiuncula Ballinasloe, due to the closure of the Accident and Emergency Department at Roscommon Hospital, which was just 15 minutes away from the scene of the collision.
Deputy Ó Caoláin said:
“This tragic case is a consequence of this and the former Government’s policy of stripping local hospitals of vital services.
“Had Roscommon Accident and Emergency Department been open this young woman would have had a much higher chance of survival. The reality is that people are dying as a direct result of this Government’s policies.”
